Efficient monitoring with schedulix

Transparency and control in workload automation

In today's fast-paced IT landscape, reliable and efficient workload automation is essential. However, But even the best automation is only as good as its monitoring. A robust monitoring system is crucial for keeping track of ongoing processes, identifying potential problems early on, and being able to intervene quickly when necessary. The workload automation systems schedulix (Open Source) and BICsuite offer comprehensive functions for this purpose that are specifically tailored to the requirements of complex IT processes.

The central monitoring views

schedulix provides various views for monitoring the status and progress of your automated workflows:

  • Monitor Master: This is the primary view for displaying the system's currently running or historically completed master jobs. Here you can get a quick overview of the status of your active jobs and manage them. The display and filter criteria can be flexibly customized and saved as personal bookmarks so that you always have quick access to relevant information.
  • Monitor Jobs: This view is very similar to Monitor Master in terms of operation, but additionally provides a hierarchical representation of the jobs. This is particularly useful for overviewing the structure and progress of batches with many subjobs. Please note that the Job Monitor may have a longer loading time on systems with a large number of jobs.

Important monitoring functions in detail

Customizable views and filters

In both Monitor Master and Monitor Jobs, you can use settings and filter settings to customize the information displayed to precisely meet your needs. This allows you to focus on specific job statuses, time periods, or other criteria, which greatly simplifies troubleshooting and status checking.

The Critical Path

A view of the critical path can be opened for runtime objects in the monitor views. This function is always available when the dependencies of a runtime object have already been fulfilled. It is used to identify jobs that are on the critical path of the respective runtime object and thus represent potential bottlenecks. Color coding of the runtimes helps to quickly identify particularly long-running jobs in the critical path and uncover optimization potential.

Calendar and scheduled executions

The Scheduling Calendar in schedulix provides an informative overview of future execution times for jobs and batches. It shows the planned load and allows users to get a clear idea of when which processes are expected. The execution times listed in the calendar for the current process object are displayed in the scheduled executions area.

Parameter resolution

In monitoring, to optimize performance when resolving parameters, only those that are defined in the definition of the process object or set by the job itself in its own context are considered. This ensures that the display remains relevant and efficient.

Object Monitoring (BICsuite PROFESSIONAL and ENTERPRISE editions)

Object monitoring is available for advanced requirements. It is used to monitor the existence of objects (e.g., files) and can automatically submit batches or jobs when these objects are created, changed, or deleted. This enables event-driven workflows that respond to external file system events.

Audit trail for transparency

All operational interventions in the system are logged in an audit trail. This ensures complete traceability of all changes and actions, which is of great importance for compliance and troubleshooting.

Monitoring in schedulix is a powerful tool that goes far beyond simply displaying status. It provides deep insight into process flows, enables proactive error detection, and supports efficient troubleshooting. Through a combination of real-time monitoring, critical path analysis, and customizable views, schedulix ensures that your automated IT processes remain transparent and controllable at all times—an indispensable advantage for any modern IT infrastructure.
